Do readers really have to login to comment?

It seems like everyone has to signup to wordpress.com to comment on my blog. Is that right??? The page that readers are getting says that people “must be logged in to comment”.

All the posts say that comments are allowed. And my options just say that comments should be moderated. But that’s all.

Is there something I’m missing here???

    Thanks in advance.

    you can customize in Option-Discussion:

    “Before a comment appears:
An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)
Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
Comment author must have a previously approved comment ”

How do users register? (This really isn’t such a dumb question, but I can’t stop WordPress from recognizing me as the Administrator.) I never see the “Register” link in the Meta setion of the sidebar.

Also — if I want to let registered users post images, I must give them something more than “subscriber” status right? What’s the lowest status needed to post a new story (and thus — if I understand correctly) an image?

On wp.com, users register by signing up.

An “Author” can publish posts and upload files.

I am having the same problem and getting beat up for not allowing the comments. I have everything clicked allowed, unless I am missing something as well. Please look into this. I want to allow comments and people are accusing me of not.

jaob I should think you would be more worried about the threatned lawsuit than your commenting difficulties.

e.webscapes has been in the web design business for a very long time, they do not steal designs no matter what you may believe.

A word of advice, your “getting beat up” for making false charges not stating an opinion.

Opinion: What do you think of So and So Blogs design? “Well it’s nice but nearly the same as the Blogopolis Blog.”

Slander and or making a false charge: What do you think of So and So Blogs design?

“Well I think it was stolen from…. blah, blah , blah.

If you fail to see the difference you’ll need a lawyer shortly.

    BTW jaob:

If Jeremy Wright who is one of the three driving forces behind B5Media, and the site you claim was “stolen from,” is quoted as saying this:

Well, I don’t see the theft. Sure, same 3 columns, but it’s not like we invented that. I won’t touch the rest of the post, but just wanted you to know that we didn’t see the copying of it when the design launched, and we don’t see it now.

Where does that place your accusation on a truth scale of 1 to 10?

All sorted. Found the option I was missing.

Under General Options, Membership there is a check box for “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”.

    Thanks everyone.
