Do sex scenes and nudity from movies count as pornography?

    How do I define mature content vs pornography?

    I’m planning on doing a review of Showgirls and also referencing its many scenes of nudity, including the main character’s strip shows and the infamous sex scene in the pool.

    I plan on reporting the post as “mature content” and including my own warnings at the start of the review before anything is revealed to show that it’s NSFW and not appropriate for all ages, but I’m wondering how WordPress defines pornography specifically?

    Showgirls is very much pro-nudity but it’s not pornography in the sense of “unsimulated sex purely for the purposes of eroticism”, and I’m trying to contextualise the relevant scenes, but is there any chance that given the movie has pretty graphic sexual content – that’s still simulated – that it’ll be removed for content violation?

    From the TOS http://en.wordpress.com/tos/
    Please don’t:
    •Post explicit sexual materials that can be considered pornographic, such as explicit images or video of sexual acts or close-up images of genitalia;
    •Post links or banner ads to adult-oriented affiliate networks, such as pornography site signups;
    •Post links, text, or images promoting or advertising escort services;
    •Post images of extreme violence or gore without associated context or commentary;
    •Post images of child pornography;
    •Post content that promotes pedophilia, such as blogs with galleries of images of children where the images, content surrounding the images, or the intent of the blog is sexually suggestive.

    Here’s the support doc regarding Mature Content http://en.support.wordpress.com/mature-content/

    We don’t have warning banners here but you can create a static front page for that purpose and another page for your posts to display on. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

    I should have clarified; I’ve actually read those terms, and I’m wondering what the definition of “sexually explicit materials that can be considered pornographic” extends to. I’m not promoting any external material, it’s all just in reference to the movie itself, and I’m wondering if two actors acting out a sex scene counts as pornographic material, even if it’s not actually pornography, but a scene from a mainstream movie.

    Is my best bet to just post the review, report it, and leave it for assessment?

    Assume your grandmother or your own child of 5 years of age would see the images then what would your answer be?

    That it’s a sex scene from a movie, but not from a porno, analysed and contextualised in a post that contains warnings about its content.

    I understand that and as I said above this thread is tagged for Staff. Please wait patiently for their response.

    That might have sounded like I was being defensive – apologies if it did.

    I’m not trying to slip the post out the back door and not have it regarded as mature content – I’m more than happy to do that, and I plan on taking the other precautions mentioned, it’s just that I’m not wanting to go to the hassle of putting up the post if it’s then taken down for being pornographic – especially if that might affect the visibility of my other posts

    Ah – I didn’t see the comment about the staff response. Cheers :)
