Do sites get out of date?
-
I wonder if a blog site is erased automatically if not used after a long long time.
When I created my blog (ekonomicus.wordpress.com) last year, I tried first to create “http://economicus.wordpress.com”. However, this latter was already registered since 2007… but never used!! There is no message, not even a name!
So I had to put a K instead of a C.
Today I checked it again and this “economicus” was still registered by the same person and no signal of activity on it after 4 years.
When is it supposed to be erased this old “economicus”? I would like to have it because the name is more “normal” than ekonomicus.

Hi. Sorry, but blog adresses do not “expire” due to inactivity and are not released. Please read this article for an explanation:

I understand :)
However, my suggestion should be to distinguish between active blogs and blogs which have not even a single post, as the case I tried to explain. If some admin could delete ‘economicus’ (with 0 post since its creation 4 years ago) I could assume that nothing were to happen.

Some blogs are created to generate an Akismet code which is used for tracking stats on a self hosted website.
The blog itself might not be being used but the code could well be.

The name may also be an active user account: someone who has been invited to view a private blog. Or it could be someone who contributes to another blog as an author or editor. Or it could be a person who uses it as a “test blog” so his posts are all only drafts.
One can’t assume that just because there are no posts, the account is not being used.
