Do some themes search better than others?
-
I hope I can make sense of my questions.
Recently, I made changes to my blog, the biggest being I put in a new theme. I now use Adventure Journal. Another change I made was converting tags to categories. I put this list on my blog, so all would be seen by visitors rather than only the top 45 tags.
Using the free version of StatCounter along with the stats Worpress provides, I can a learn a little about my visitors. One thing I am noticing these past few days is a jump in people coming to category pages from the search engines, rather than individual posts. Is this related to the theme? Or is it because I made all my categories visible? Or is it something else all together? If it is theme related, what themes search better than others?
Maybe there are no easy answers, but I thought I would try. Thank you for any help you can give.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t have any answers for you aside to say that (1) I don’t believe this is theme related at all and (2) “yes” search engines like Google do index Category pages.
Your blog is indexed by Google (429 results).
Your blog is indexed by Bing (94 results). -
Also note this:
The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/ -
I believe that different wordpress.com themes may make difference. in search engines.
When I used an old theme, the word “E-mail” a top keyword according to google webmaster tools. My hunch is because the word appeared on every post near to the comment.
Since switching to the “Enterprise” the keywords according to google webmasters have been appropriate.
The actual difference in on search engines may be minor, but if it is important, I think if you stay with the later themes, you be fine.

Thank you for your responses. I am considering getting a custom domain through WordPress and wondered if the theme made a difference in hits. I just posted a lot of questions in a new thread.
Wow, timethief, 429?! I guess I’ve been busy. I started the blog last summer :) I thought I read somewhere about post titles, so if it is something I feel important, I do try to make sure it is in text form.
Reading what you said, dlager, I may break down and try to figure out the Google webmaster tools. I tried looking into it once and was overwhelmed.

It doesn’t make any difference to traffic at all. I also answered the questions I could in your other thread. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-domain-questions?replies=2#post-827552
