do wordpress.com sites have any bandwidth limits? I have a couple of WP sites that I am hosting thru a hosting co, but I’m worried about a big spike in traffic later this week so I was considering redirecting my domain over to me .wordpress.com site so that I could keep it up and going during the spike.
does this plan make sense? will my wordpress.com site stay up during a spike in traffic? are there any bandwidth limits?
thx much,

WordPress.com sites have no bandwidth limits. WordPress sites hosted elsewhere may; consult your host.
You can’t just redirect a domain during a spike, as there is an unsettled period of up to 72 hours when the DNS is propagating. It’s not like you can flip a switch and it’s done.
One blog here got 145 million hits in two days and did not go offline, although it frightened her so much she stopped blogging.

thx. exactly what I wanted to know. one clarification… If I did a re-direct and left my domain at my existing host couldn’t I “flip the switch” pretty quickly?

No – each time you “flip the switch” the 72 hours of erratic access to your sites starts all over and your site might not be able to be visited at all during part of that time frame
