Do you have a theme that has a grid of images for pages rather than posts?
-
I’m looking for a theme that allows (on the main page) images (or icons) that represent pages within the site, instead of images that only reference blog posts. Is something like that possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

you can motif themes grid pages. However im having difficulty getting the images to be as i want as each grid takes a reference picture from the pages featured picture but only shows part of the picture in the grid, but its meant to do as you want so give it a try

Pages are not Posts. The two are very different. Pages sit outside the blog structure and are for static content that rarely changes. Also Pages do not have RSS Feeds; only Posts do.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.

Thanks for answering, timethief. I realize that posts and pages are very different. I’m looking for a template that would allow me to display my pages–static content–on the front page. (Once viewers land on a certain page, they will then have specific posts available to read.)
It seems what I’m looking for is a grid format, but I don’t see that as a feature I can search for while looking for templates. Is there another way to search for this feature? Or is it called something else?
If it’s not available, should I put the same information in a post (rather than a page) and make it sticky so it’s always on the front page?
Thanks in advance. I’ve had issues before that you’ve answered–quickly and clearly. Hope you can solve this one, too.

I cannot solve this for you and that’s why I tagged this thread for Themes Staff. There are far too many themes with far too many features for us Volunteers to keep up with the variations these days so a Staff member answers such questions now.

Thanks anyway. I thought the theme search engine was set up to find themes that met particular requirements.

Meeting the requirement you are looking for is not a feature that we can search for.
1. That said, using any theme at all one can create a post, create and upload images and embed them in that post and link the images to pages of their choice. Then they can then make that post a sticky post.
2. On any theme one can create a page, create and upload images and embed them in that post and link the images to pages of their choice. Then they can make that page into a static front page.

If you’d like to try a free theme that has a grid page template, here are a few you might like to look at, in addition to Motif:
Goran – https://gorandemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/
Edin – https://edindemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/
Sela – https://selademo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/

Ah, Sela is not officially launched yet, my mistake and sorry for the confusion. Keep an eye on the blog for news on the launch.

Glad you like the look of Sela! I don’t have a precise ETA on the launch, but it’ll likely be early next year.
