Do you have to have VideoPress to link to a YouTube video?

I am trying to link a YouTube video to one of the pages of my blog (www.jadereyner.com) and I have followed the instructions on all of your help pages however I don’t get the picture of the video on my page, only the written link. The link does take you to the video but according to all of your help pages, I should be able to see a box with the picture of the video in on my page/blog.

Please can you help? Thank you.

    Hi there,

No, you don’t need to have VideoPress in order to play YouTube videos.

There are a few things which can really cause problems when you are inserting the YouTube videos. The main thing is that you have to make sure that you aren’t pasting in a hyperlink, but just plain text. Also, you need to have the basic YouTube viewing link, not the embed one (you can tell by the fact that there is the word “embed” in the link that you’re inserting). If your YouTube code has any of these, our editor doesn’t see it correctly and so doesn’t know to convert it into the player.

If push comes to shove, you can always create the YouTube shortcode yourself by putting your link into the editor like so:
