Do you need to have a user account to comment?
-
I have just recently opened a wordpress account for my blog. And I was wondering; if people that view my blog wanted to leave a comment, would they need to have a wordpress user account first.
I hope not as that may well put people off from commenting, but I couldn’t find anything in the FAQs

By default anyone can leave a comment on a blog.
You haven’t altered any settings so anyone can indeed leave a comment. -
Hi sjp1966 —
Mark is right.
If you or your commenters want Avatars next to their names they will need to register on WP.com to get an account to upload their Avatar.
Then they’ll need to be logged into WP.com when they post a comment if they wish their Avatar to show.

Cool, so anyone can leave a comment, but if they want an avatar they need an account?
Thanks
Steve

They must be logged in to have an Avatar or even a Question Mark where the Avatar is supposed to be placed. If they’re not logged in with their account, no sort of “Avatar” will load at all.
