Document Library/Knowledge base – Multiple uploads with metadata

    I’m playing around with options for our business.
    We currently have an old HTML based site which contains links to policies and forms (over 2000 of them) which are displayed in an accordion which can go into multiple levels.

    We are looking into using WP to help us migrate and the themes really do look fantastic, but it is the document libraries I’m having trouble with.

    I’ve tried document libraries and knowledge base plugins. All of them seem to want me to upload each file seperately and tag with data. But with over 2000 files, this won’t happen in my lifetime.

    Is there any plugin, or way we can have a library/knowledge base which contains the pdf/docx files which is laid out in an easy to find searchable way, which also allows us to upload the bulk of our items in one go? Ideally using a csv too which would tag the information.

    Are you planning on using our hosting solution (WordPress.com) or host your site elsewhere?

    The site isn’t built yet. I’m just testing ideas.
    but it will be a monthly plan with a domain. Government site. So unsure how they handle it.

    If you’d like to host the site with us you’ll want to upgrade to WordPress.com Business to unlock plugin installation and uploading third-party themes.

    As for which plugin to use for your import we recommend working with a developer or WordPress agency for help building your unique importer. With that being said you’ll find some free importer plugins at:

    Thanks.

    Before I worry about plans and which is best to use however, I need to be sure that WordPress can indeed do what we want before I convince our bosses to use it.
    Looking at those CSV importers, they looked promising, but still don’t seem to do what we require.

    I don’t want to get into the weed about that here, since I don’t think this is the right place to ask for specifics, but I am unsure what place is the right place.

    All we want is a way of importing 2000+ files (docs, pdfs) into WP and have it linked with the metadata from a CSV file which can be displayed in a document library or knowledge base type system. A lot of the plugins only seem to go halfway.

    @triaxial I’d recommend choosing the documents plugin that works best for you, based on uploading a few different types of documents as tests, then working with a developer to get your data imported properly.

    Also, given that you will need to upload thousands of files, and we don’t offer FTP/SFTP at this time, you will likely want a WordPress.org installation at another host.
