Documentation/Process Issue-Marking sites as Mature

From reading a recent forum topic on this, I understand that the process for marking a WordPress.com site “Mature” has changed so that a site owner can no longer flag their own site as mature and needs to report their site to Support directly.

First issue-Self Declaring Mature Content: The Mature Content Support Guide at https://wordpress.com/support/mature-content/ includes a link to the generic Support help page, where no option to report a mature site exists. Clicking the “Contact Support” link opens the contact form and as a result, such requests on free sites, at least, end up in the public forums. That may not be optimal as it appears the contact form submission for such requests is not automatically tagged for Staff attention? (FWIW there is a 3-day old forum request on this subject.)

The second issue-Flagging someone else’s WordPress.com site as Mature: the last paragraph of that same Mature Content Support Guide says,

If you have found a site on WordPress.com that is hosting mature content, please use the Report this content option in the blog menu of your Toolbar and select “This content should be marked as mature” to report it to us. If you do not have a WordPress.com account, you can report the site using our complaint form. Our staff will review the content and take action as necessary.

That highlighted option no longer exists in the Action Bar after clicking “Report this content”. Instead clicking it leads to the new report abuse/complaint form where you encounter “Explicit material”. And while I understand that “Explicit” and “Mature” are being used here interchangeably, my lizard brain is looking for the word “Mature”. Using the same wording consistently could help here.

    Thanks for listening.

(And the Add new topic form has no place to add any tag!?)

  • Thanks for sharing this feedback, @justjennifer. I got the one thread sorted. I’ll share this with the team & see what we can do. Cheers!

@supernovia appreciated. FWIW the above-mentioned forum thread was taken care of a couple of hours after I flagged it for staff. Thanks.
