Does a guided transfer include funding a 3rd party theme with .com blog content?
-
I have a .com blog which I would like to move to a third-party theme, along with moving my blog content from a wordpress.com to wordpress.org. Does a guided transfer include matching my current blog content to the new theme? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. Do not buy the upgrade until you are more familiar with the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. You need to buy paid hosting BEFORE the transfer can take place, and it does not involve installing any themes, it simply moves your content from here to your new webspace.

Thanks raincoaster…in this case, what are the steps to transition to a third party template? Surely I can’t be locked into a .com blog. ?? Thanks.

No, not at all. Any WordPress.org install, ie independent hosting, comes with a prefab theme, I believe it’s twenty twelve right now. And any transfer from WordPress.com into a WordPress.org blog puts the content into that theme. But the guided transfer doesn’t do that any better than doing it by yourself; you are still responsible for making sure the content fits in the column, etc. The guided transfer only moves the content, it doesn’t format it.
You need to find a good web host and buy hosting. Then, if they don’t install WordPress.org software in your new site, you do it yourself. Then you transfer the content from Wp.com to the new site, then you change where the domain points. Then you can get dealing with themes on the same basis as all the other WP.org users.
