Does a WP.com Free hosted Site Forum Exist?
-
I think much of my confusion might be from having a ‘free’ version WordPress DOT COM website. Much of the time I get responses to issues that address what a ‘premium’ or ‘business’ website can address. Like for instance – I think CSS files are not editable from my free website. Is this correct? If I upgraded to Premium – Are the CSS files able to be edited? Or does one have to upgrade to a ‘Business’ account to be able to edit them?
My perspective is coming from MY situation – a free hosted WP account. Maybe I don’ t make that clear when I request a solution to an issue I have. I’ll try to do better at that.
For right now though – I can not edit CSS because of the type account I have …. correct?
Thanks

Yes and this is the support forum for WordPress.com sites on the free plan.
To setup your theme properly see https://wordpress.com/theme/hemingway-rewritten
For the customizer see https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
If you have the Premium or Business upgrade http://wordpress.com/plans on the site you can opt to apply custom CSS to a WordPress.com theme.
Note 1: If you have the required upgrade you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can create a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need with CSS editing.
Note 2: You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.

This is the support forum for those who have the wordpress.COM free plan. Help! Getting WordPress.com Support https://en.support.wordpress.com/help-support-options/
All sites with upgraded plans like yours include access to live chat support. https://wordpress.com/help/contact At times when all operators are busy or unavailable, you’ll be able to get through to private email support. Have you tried using live chat support?

I have seen the pages to the links you have posted. On the link https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ I saw the following:
“Some options in the Customizer require the WordPress.com Premium or WordPress.com Business plans. If you’ve purchased one of these plans you can use the Custom Design feature, which gives unrestricted access to Custom Colors, Custom Fonts, and a CSS Editor:”
When I go into Customize (from the dashboard) – I DO NOT see CSS as an option for editing. This is because I have the ‘free’ account right?
I want to edit the style or custom.css files – by using an editor not through the WP dashboard). With my FREE account – can I do this? I’m thinking I can not.

I’m not trying to be offensive here but is your response a ‘bot’ response? I’ve stated several times that I have FREE account! NOT a Premium or Business account!

I am not a robot. I am a human being who ahas answered questions here for nearly 12 years.
I acknowledged that you stated you had a free plan on the site. Howver, you cannot have a custom domain like http://slaterunsportsmen.com/ unless you have an upgraded plan. If you did not have an upgraded plan the URL would be a https://________.wordpress.COM URL.
Hence, you do have an upgraded site and you can post to the correct CSS editing forum that I provided the link for above.
As you have the required upgrade you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can create a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need with CSS editing.

@ What does it say when you click on “My Sites” and scroll down to “Plan”? And can you see a CSS customization tab in your Customizer menu? There is always the possibility that you have a Personal plan, and would still need to upgrade to Premium for CSS customisation??

On the left after clicking My Site – View Site – Stats – Plan
To the right of Plan – Free -

Are you definitely the owner of the site or just a contributor? Did you set up the Domain or does it have another owner? It looks like @timethief has added the modlook tag so a member of staff will be needed to look behind the scenes to solve this puzzle.

The basic site was created some time ago. Maybe a year ago – I’m not certain exactly when. But the domain name was already paid for and was renewed in February when I took over.
The guy running the site wanted out of it so I volunteered. So in early to mid-February, I took over and started modifying the site. The ‘Club’ – Slate Run Sportsmen owns the site but I have been monitoring it and changing the content in it these past couple of months.
I’m not sure how “slaterunsportsmen.com” was created or assigned. But I know the “FREE” is beside the Plan in the Dashboard. This might all be an exercise in futility as I think we may upgrade to the wordpress.org site in a few months.
So, just wanted you to know about that possibility.
If I’ve done something wrong let me know! I’m at a loss for what that could be but… stranger things have happened.

Your own plan may be free but someone owns the domain and only the owner of the domain can renew it (or move it somewhere else if you want to go elsewhere and use the WordPress.org software). You’ll need to make sure the domain is definitely in your account if you plan on moving.
(IMHO I think you might find elsewhere even more difficult) -
Either SRS owns the domain name because they reimbursed the guy that paid for the domain name is what I thought may have happened. the ‘guy’ purchased the domain name on behalf of the SRS club. Either way I know that we purchased the domain names slaterunsportsmen.com and slaterunsportsmen.org. I paid for the .org domain name renewal a few weeks ago. I wanted to make sure that domain name didn’t expire and get released out into the public for the choosing. I wanted to make sure so we had the choice to use it if we go that way.
What I am learning or beginning to think is that the ‘Premium’ account or the .org site version/s might be the direction we are heading. It looks like there is just more ability to edit the themes (CSS) with having those sorts of accounts. I wanted to make sure I understood the limitations of the ‘Free’ site version before I recommend to change it or upgrade it.
Thanks for your input

Hi –
Following up on the Modlook tag and hoping I can clear up some of the confusion.
Normally, you wouldn’t be able to register or map a custom domain to your WordPress.com account with out a plan upgrade. What happened here, is that your premium plan did not renew with the custom domain renewal. These were originally bought roughly a year ago.
With that said, you are indeed on a free plan, and just happen to have 2 custom domains on the account.
Do you want the premium plan added? Let me know to which site.
Does that help?
