Does anyone have experience with the P2 theme? Would it work for sports?
-
I think the P2 theme looks interesting. I like the “threaded comments” whatever that is, I mean if it means there’s a forum and comments can be separated into topics and people can talk to each other within the comments, then that’s very cool. But maybe I’m misinterpreting and overselling it.
I understand it was developed to be like twitter, and not necessarily for sports, or at all for sports, but I’m wondering if you all think it could work for a sports blog, if I changed the background colors around, added a header (assuming all this is possible), made it look more like a sports blog, would this work?
• Can these things be changed in this particular theme with CSS? is the first question
• If they can, would you recommend it for a sports blog, or is it really not meant for longer analytic posts, and those would look bad on it?What do you all think? Thank you very much for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As @themeshaper already mentioned to you elsewhere, the style of all WordPress.com themes can modified with the CSS/Custom Design upgrade. The most important consideration is if you have a working knowledge of CSS or are willing to learn.
If you are thinking of P2, then I suggest you read some previous discussions on P2 and you can get to them by clicking on the P2 tag I added to this thread.

As far as media goes, P2 does everything any other theme does, but it’s easiest to do so from the Dashboard and not the front end. See this discussion: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/p2-theme-and-gallery?replies=12

I tried adding a slideshow in P2, and instead of showing the slideshow in my post, it says “This slideshow requires JavaScript.”
My computer has javascript, so why isn’t the slideshow showing? It showed on other themes. What’s happening here?

Also thanks for the link. I did, for the record, search P2 in the search box, but found no dedicated “This is the official P2 theme thread,” just lots of specific questions such as mine, but not mine.
A little off topic, but just to state the obvious
this . is . impossible .

Did you follow the instructions in this Support Doc to insert your slideshow? http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/
I mentioned above that in P2, Media is best uploaded and inserted to posts via the Dashboard and not the front end of P2. If you didn’t upload your images to the post where you want to insert the slideshow (so that they become attached to that specific post), it won’t work. The same thing would be true for using the Gallery shortcode and that was the point of the thread I mentioned above.
If you did upload the images to that post and the slideshow shortcode didn’t work, then that is a problem.

Thanks for the help. I did use dashboard. I had been previewing and trying out lots of themes, so I believe I uploaded the photos while using another theme, and then they were in my gallery or whatever it’s called, so when I activated P2, I went to the gallery where the pictures were already uploaded, and then clicked insert into slideshow. It was all done in dashboard but are you saying I need to reupload them while using the p2 theme in the specific post?

Also @justjennifer, do you know where pages are located in P2 theme? I mean when you’re viewing your blog using the p2 theme, I dont see the pages listed anywhere, any link to them.
Also the comment box in P2, i noticed you can’t comment with a twitter name or facebook name, even though most other themes have comment boxes that allow this. Is there a way to program this in to the P2 theme with CSS? Why does P2 not allow you to comment with your twitter account and facebook and so on?

You can use a menu widget or a pages widget in your sidebar to show the pages you create in P2.
I’d suggest you try using dummy text for your test posts: less work and you can make it as long or short as you like:

Thank you for the help, to you and everyone (a little less to my staff helper who has disappeared off the face of my topic’s earth, which is even more incomprehensible given the fact that my topic has a really pretty face, so much so that I often finding myself going over to it and just staring at the answerless page with jealousy). But really thanks to everyone who keeps trying to help. I feel worse and worse and more frustrated with every post I have to make, not just for myself but at the fact that I keep having to post new questions and ask people to take even more time to help me. So thank you it’s very appreciated trust me.
The widget idea I had forgotten about. Most themes just show your pages even without a widget so that’s why I found it curious that P2 didn’t seem to. But the widget option would work fine for me if I choose the theme.
My only other major concerns that I know about for the P2 theme are the comment box (is there a way to make it so you can comment with twitter or facebook name like seems standard for the other themes?),
and,
Can someone please confirm whether or not P2 uses fixed background images, and if the width of the content area can be relatively easily edited in CSS? And I noticed the outer background color could be edited through my messing around with it, but can the background behind the actual text? Just need quick confirmation on those things.
Thank you again

but are you saying I need to reupload them while using the p2 theme in the specific post?
No. It shouldn’t matter that you’ve uploaded and inserted a slideshow to a post or page in one theme and then switched to another theme. The slideshow should appear in all themes. If it doesn’t, it’s a bug and should be reported. (Update: it’s a bug or can be chalked up to another one of P2’s oddities.)
As far as commenting in P2 with Twitter or Facebook, that is a good question, to which I do not have an answer. I suggest you contact Support when they return on the 15th.

@puckcircle: the P2 theme does not have that functionality at the moment. If you wish, you can post your request as the feedback in the Themes forum (be sure to read this first).

@puckcircle The background behind the actual text can be modified via modifying the CSS.
