Does anyone know how long WordPress.com holds a site address domain after you delete it?
-
I designed two versions of my blog on WordPress.com. I plan on transferring the best one to the .com tonight. I would like to place the better of the two on the wordpress site address. I used blank.wordpress.com and blank2.wordpress.com. I changed the site address of blank.wordpress.com in wp-admin/my blogs to blank3.wordpress.com, so I could place the blank2.wordpress.com blog on blank.wordpress.com. However, when I tried to change the name, I received a message that the url was being used already. It didn’t register that I deleted the name, though the site isn’t up anymore. It says that the creators deleted it. Is is no longer available. I eventually would like to place my site that is now on blank3.wordpress.com onto blank2.wordpress.com. I would like the best site to be on blank.wordpress.com plus blank.com. Please let me know how to go about transferring the names correctly to avoid running into this problem. I’d also like to know if there is a turnaround time on wordpress.com domain names and how long. I did this 2-3 days ago. And it still says the name has already been used. This is throwing off all of my plans. Thanks for your help.

Read Recycling Blog Addresses (URLs) https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/ please. The answer is 2 years or more.

Note that you can export and import content rather than ending up in this situation again. See Moving Between WordPress.com Blogs
