What exactly are you trying to achieve?
What exactly is your end goal?
One does not place widgets in headers. They can only be placed in sidebars or footer areas as defined by the designer of each theme. Plane offers a total of five widget areas that can be configured via Appearance → Widgets, or through the Customizer. One widget area is in the sidebar while four are above the footer. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/plane/
To add a Custom Header go to Appearance → Customize → Header and select your header image.

Hi, I want to create Header sections with in the plane template. But I am guessing this is not possible then?
As I want my social media buttons to run across the top instead of the bottom. -
Even with a custom design upgrade we cannot access and edit the underlying PHP and HTML on WordPress.COM blogs. Are you clear on that? See > Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questionsWhat’s possible without an upgrade is a single header image as is stated on the detailed theme description page where the set up instructions are provided http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/plane/

Please be patient while waiting for a Volunteer with CSS editing skills or Staff to assist you.

Hi there – only some themes have a widget area in the header, and Plane isn’t one of them.

Here is a guide to repositioning social media widgets in any theme that you might find useful:

It depends what you mean by “header sections.” It’s possible to add widget content to other areas of a theme and then try to position them absolutely with custom CSS as explained in the support document I linked to above, but it can be tricky, especially on a responsive theme.
It looks like you’ve switched to Minnow here – http://pocketadventures.me/ – so just let me know if you need further help with anything.

I just realized the document I linked to above doesn’t actually explain how to reposition the widget with social media buttons, only how to create them. :-)
Here’s a thread where Sheri (designsimply) explains how to do it in a different theme – you could adapt it as needed for Plane:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/social-media-plugins-below-header-image
I won’t go into more detail right now since I’m not sure you’re still using Plane, but just let me know if you need further help.
