Does anyone know how to turn of the ‘text formatting block’ that keeps appearing when I’m writing a post? It’s interferring in my writing! Thanks

    Hi there,

    Are you speaking of the block toolbar that appears right above the block you’re currently working on?

    Click the … icon top-right in the editor, and click the Top Toolbar option. That will stick the toolbar to the top of the screen instead.

    Note that this preference is saved via a browser cookie, so you’ll need to re-set it each time after you’ve cleared cookies.

    Dear kokkieh;
    Thanks so much. It’s better now. I found … upper right and turned on top toolbar. And the box stopped appearing everywhere.

    I still get the pesky

    “Start writing or type / to choose a block” and the message appears within my text/lines so it’s still a distraction. (First of course it appears as just a “plus” sign. I would just like to type without all this formatting stuff following my cursor around like so many mosquitoes! : ).

    Unfortunately I find that Blogger has so many less bells and whistles I can safely write without as many distractions that come up in WordPress!

    I still get the pesky

    “Start writing or type / to choose a block” and the message appears within my text/lines so it’s still a distraction.

    I’ve seen a few people give feedback that they find this distracting. However, any changes to that would have to come from WordPress.org where the editor is made. I’ve learned to just ignore that and continue writing.

    my 2¢/Personally, I love that line as an initial writing prompt when I open the Editor, because it says so much about the idea behind the Editor.

    Having said that, once I’ve started writing it can be a little annoying but I’ve also learned to ignore it. I originally thought the purpose of that line was to denote the presence of an empty block, but that doesn’t always seem to be the case either because when I preview my post or page, there’s no empty space where that block appears in the Editor. :shrug:
