Does API allow more than 40 char. in blog title and allow for images to be pushed?
-
Hi:
I publish using Hootsuite. In posts to my WordPress.com blog, the blog title field gets truncated after (40) char. Also, images pushed from Hootsuite appear only as a ow.ly link in the blog descr., i.e. the image is not actually inserted into the blog post. Hootsuite is saying this is a limitation of the WP.com API. Is that correct information?
Thank you!

Hi @wehealcomputers , I’d be happy to find out. Can you send a link to a post that was truncated this way?
Here’s our API documentation, by the way: https://developer.wordpress.com/docs/api/

Hi @supernovia:
Here’s an example of a post where the title is truncated at 40 characters: https://ittropolis.wordpress.com/2016/04/27/samsung-pay-now-lets-you-withdraw-cash-a/
It always happens when I push a post from Hootsuite, who is using your API. Hootsuite is saying this is a limitation of the API but I can’t imagine so given a blog title can have more than 40 char.
Also, the image uploaded to Hootsuite and pushed to other social media pages, like Facebook (see same post pushed to FB here: https://www.facebook.com/TropolisGroup/), does not make its’ way into WordPress.com.
Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks @wehealcomputers, we’ll check that out.
Also, re: the missing image, has that always been an issue?
-
@wehealcomputers I’ve confirmed it’s not a WordPress.com limitation, though with my googling I did find several SEO-related suggestions at limiting title length.
Also, our API does allow image uploads, so I’m not sure why they aren’t working there. But you might ask Hootsuite to check any errors on their end.

Hi @supernovia:
I’ll follow-up with HootSuite though someone from WordPress.com may have more pull with them than little old me :)
Thanks so much for your help on this issue.
Cheers,
