Does auto save exist on WordPress or not?
-
I’ve lost a half dozen posts because the only ‘save’ function I have is manual. Is this some kind of ‘upgrade’-only feature or is AutoSave buried in settings sonewhere?

Hi @brianlambertmn, this is for a site hosted here, correct? We do have a save draft option on the block editor… and an auto save. “Save Draft” changes to a checkmark that says “Saved” every time it autosaves.
Try loading up a post and making a small change while watching the upper right area of the screen.
Also, just as a word of caution, I’ve seen a few cases where people open a post, leave it open overnight, wake up and start typing, only to find out several paragraphs later that the editor lost its connection. If you’ll be leaving your post for a while, I’d recommend closing the editor, and re-opening it when you’re ready.

Thank you for the reply.
Yes. It is a site hosted by Word Press. “Wry Wing Politics.”
You say, “We do have a save draft option on the block editor… and an auto save. “Save Draft” changes to a checkmark that says “Saved” every time it autosaves.”
In practice what does this mean? My colleague and I have used Word Press for years — literally — and have never found any save function other than manually clicking “Save Draft.”
If auto save exists my (simple) question is: How Do You Turn It On?
Thank you.

You’re posting into the support forum for free sites hosted at WordPress.com. That particular site appears to be over there at Bluehost. As here and the .org software work differently perhaps there isn’t an autosave with the software you use there. Yo’d need to register an account and ask at the correct forum;

Neither my colleague or I understand what you’re saying. Does the WordPress we are using have AutoSave or not? If so, where is it and how do you turn it on?

WordPress is the open source software powering your website, which can be downloaded from WordPress.org, the website for the open source project.
WordPress.com is a hosting service where we host sites using the WordPress software. We can only help with sites hosted here at WordPress.com, not sites hosted elsewhere.
Your site “wrywingpolitics.com” appears to be hosted with Bluehost. You should reach out to them for help with this to see why auto saving isn’t working for your WordPress installation as it is not a setting to turn on or off. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you with this issue. You can reach their support team here:

I hope that clarifies things!
