Does Business plan have access to DNS backend?
-
I am building a NextJS site and I am looking to create a WordPress blog that I will render on the NextJS site using GraphQL. I would like to visit the wordpress site via updates.myurl.com. To do that I need to be able to point the updates at an IP. I am using Amazon Route 53 to do this. I have not used WordPress in a long time and back when I did I used Digital Ocean which gives me an IP that I can ‘map’ to the url via Route 53. Is this possible with a WordPress Business account?
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I already own the URL and have it setup through AWS Route 53. I do not want to transfer my domain to WordPress. I would like the blog to be at the subdomain “updates”, which I can easily do through Route 53 by giving updates an A record (and probably a CNAME for www) but will my WordPress site be assigned an IP that I can inject into the record creation on the AWS end?
I hope my question makes sense. I don’t want to drop $300-$480 for a 1/2 year business plan only to find out it won’t work and that I need to spin up a droplet at Digital Ocean. I really like how the Business plan offers spike protection. In the past I have had DO droplets crash when there is a spike in traffic and having WordPress handle that would alleviate a lot of stress for me. But only if I can make the subdomain thing work -
Hi there!
You can point a subdomain to a WordPress.com Business plan site using IP addresses by following the steps here:
If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. If you cannot use the recommended method, this guide will show you how to connect your domain using A records (IP addresses). About This Method This guide will show you how to connect a domain to your WordPress.com site using root A & CNAME records. This means: Your domain willAfter upgrading to the Business plan and installing a plugin/uploading a theme, you’ll find a set of two IP addresses by following the steps above, which you can add to two A records on your domain to point a subdomain to your WordPress.com site. (The instructions above are for pointing a root domain to WordPress.com, but you can point a subdomain as well to use with your WordPress.com site.)
You can upgrade to the Business plan and follow the steps here to add a Domain Connection for your subdomain to get the IP addresses.
I believe that’s mainly what you wanted to know. But feel free to let us know if you have more questions.
