Does changing to selfhost. with wp.com domain = disconnection from wp community?

  Q1. Does changing to self hosted with my wordpress.com purchased domain (did not transfer wordpress.com domain name, but just changed name servers to the outside host) mean I am no longer connected to the wordpress.com community i.e. blog posts won’t show up on wordpress.com when users search/explore (via searching for tags etc.)?
  Q2. Do I have to transfer the domain properly? Will something bad happen if I don’t?

  When you move to a self-hosted site, and publish on that site, your content will only appear there. It will not also appear at WordPress.com. WordPress.com readers will not be able to find your latest posts via WordPress.com search.

  We do recommend transferring your domain to your new server. It will be much easier for you to maintain your entire site in one location. You do not have to do this, but we find it suits our WordPress.org users much better to remove “the middleman” from the process.

  Hey there,

  Thanks so much for your response.

  I knew they would not usually get wp.org sites in the wp.com community buuut I wondered about it because of the fact that the domain was originally part of, and purchased through wp.com, i.e. was originally, ‘rebeccaelizabethanne.wordpress.com’ that’s all. But yes, thanks for clearing that up.
