Does changing username update resource URLs?
-
I’m trying to help a friend with their blog – when they initially set up the wordpress account they set their username up as [username]. Once the blog started developing, they bought the domain name [domainname] through WordPress.com, and updated their blog to use it. However they’d like to now change the WordPress user name to correlate with [domainname].
What we’re wanting to know is, if we change the user name will this automatically flow through and update all of the “internal” resource URLs used in the page. For example:
Jetpack OpenID URLs: link rel=’openid.server’ href=’http://[username].wordpress.com/?openidserver=1′ /
Image URLs: http://%5Busername%5D.files.wordpress.com/…filepath…
These would need to become [domainname].wordpress.com and [domainname].files.wordpress.com
Does anyone know if these will update?
Thanks,
JBS

No, it will not. The media URLs always remain in the format of the original WP.com URLs. They are never Specialname.com.jpg

Hi there, thanks for that…
I may not have made it clear – if I change username from [usernameA] to [usernameB] will the media URLs change from [usernameA].files.wordpress.com to [usernameB].files.wordpress.com ?

It has nothing to do with the username. It’s the underlying blog URL that is used. Yes, the media will change if the blog URL itself changes.

Ah OK, thanks – so it was just coincidence that the original blog URL that the person set up was the same as their username.
