Does deleting a blog free up the domain name?

  I have started a blog. I haven’t added anything to it yet. Currently, it has blogname.wordpress.com at the end. I know I have the option of purchasing blogname.com through wordpress.

  If I delete this wordpress blog, will the blogname.com, .net, .me, etc become available for purchase at another domain site?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
