Does deleting a post delete it in the archive?

I’ve enabled the archive widget so old posts get automatically archived. However, I want the posts on the homepage only in the archive when they automatically show up in the archive. Right now they’re both on the homepage and in the archive. Is there a way to get the original posts to auto-delete off the homepage and become auto-archived?

If I delete a post will it be deleted in the archive, too?

    Thanks for any help.

If you delete a post from your blog, it is gone completely from your blog forever. The archives are just all the posts from a given time period like January 2008 or December 2007. The posts are automatically archived when you create them into the appropriate month. The main page shows the most recent posts you created and short of have more new posts or limiting the number of posts on the main page, there is no real way to just “archive” it and stop individual posts from showing if they are newer posts.

    Does that make sense?

Yes, I think so. Thanks Trent.

    So, can I then

    1. limit the number of posts on the main page?

    2. move an existing post on the main page to another existing page?

    1) Yes in your Admin => Options => Reading there is an option to change the number of posts shown on the main page.

    2) If you have it set to show 3 posts on the main page, the 4th post you created will now not show on the main page. It is just like a list of posts in order. At the bottom of the page there is an “older entries” link that shows the next “3” posts and so on. You can also click on an “archive month” and it will show the posts from that month.
