Does it require a paid plan to connect a domain?

I am following the instructions at https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/ but now it wants me to buy a plan for a hundred bucks and I don’t want to.

Hi! As noted in the guide, without a paid plan, you wouldn’t be able to set your connected domain as the primary domain:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/set-a-primary-address/What that means is that even if the domain were connected, visitors who type in the domain will still end up being redirected to http://littleredwagonrosebud.wordpress.com/.
If you’d prefer not to use the Premium plan, we do have the Personal plan which still enables you to connect the domain and set it to primary:
We can check if there’s a way for you to connect the domain only, without also setting it as the primary domain – would you want to look into that?
