Does mapping my domain mean you're going to host it?
-
Hi! I have a domain marshmary.com and I purchased it from Godaddy, also their Managed WordPress hosting.
I feel like I want to change my hosting service, and I found out about ‘mapping a domain’ to wordpress.
I just want to know if that means wordpress will be my host if I do map my domain to wordpress, or is that a totally different thing and I still need to pay for domain + host + the mapping every year? Sorry about this, I’m not really techy and I don’t understand the articles I’ve read with all the techy terms. I hope you can explain it to me in terms that are a lot easier to understand. Thank you so much and I will be waiting for a response.
All the best,

Hi Mary,
I feel like I want to change my hosting service, and I found out about ‘mapping a domain’ to wordpress.
marshmary.com is a WordPress site built using the software from WordPress.org.
Only sites built with WordPress.com can be hosted on WordPress.com. Also, the domain mapping upgrade is for pointing an existing domain to a WordPress.com site.
If you are looking to change your host check out this page: https://wordpress.org/hosting/
You can learn about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Let me know if that helps, or if you have any other questions.

If you set up a blog on WordPress.COM, then transfer your content from Godaddy to your new blog on WordPress.COM – – at that point you can map your existing domain to your new blog here – that would make WordPress.COM your new host – you pay for the domain mapping – – but hosting is free

I have my blog Technotoned.wordpress.com and Now I want redirect it to my private domain Technotoned.com. This is not live at this moment.
I have already purchased my domain and hosting space from godaddy.
I don’t want to lose my traffic and I am confused what to do now.
Should I still need to purchase hosting from wordpress?
Please help me…
