Does my theme support the archive widget?

I don’t understand how to get the archive widget to work and I’m wondering if it’s maybe because my theme doesn’t allow it? I think it’d be really useful on my blog, though. Thank you!

    Hello there!

You are correct — your theme, Sidekick, doesn’t support widgets. There’s no place for them in the developer’s layout of the theme.

If you’d like to use that Archive widget, you will have to choose another theme.

If I can help in any way with the process, please let me know.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Thank you SO much for your help! I felt like I was going crazy because I couldn’t get it to work! Can you tell me what themes do support widgets and if I change my theme, how will all of my pages and most of the “set up” of my blog be retained?

    Thank you again!

    Hey there!

Ha! You are definitely not going crazy…at least about your widgets :)

Can you tell me what themes do support widgets and if I change my theme, how will all of my pages and most of the “set up” of my blog be retained?

The funny thing is that the majority of our themes support widgets. Sidekick is rare.

I grabbed a few examples of themes that are similar to Sidekick, but that have a sidebar that allows for widgets:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/
    https://wordpress.com/themes/suits/

Here’s one that will display your widgets in the footer:

You can find a ton more at WordPress.com/themes

Just make sure that on the site description page, you see a mention of how/where widgets can be used on your site.

Themes with 2-columns/1-sidebar should all support widgets

As far as the retention of your current configure is concerned, all of your content will remain untouched. Your pages/posts/media will stay intact and will be organized in the same manner on the new theme. Your menu should also remain the same unless you choose a theme with a wildly different menu structure.

What will be lost are adjustments you’ve made to your site’s colors and fonts, and you may have to re-choose your background image.

There may be subtle aesthetic changes, but those are quickly fixed. I can help with that, if you have questions.

I recommend you look at the theme’s Demo page if you are interested in activating it for your own site. Make sure you like the way the theme behaves before you activate it for yourself.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

    Awwww…That made my day!

I’ll pass that kind thought along to my coworkers.

    Wishing you the best!
