does Tag Follow and/or Tag Search EXCLUDE my own blog's posts?

    Okay, I “get” how a tag and a category function the same way when it comes to searching/following a particular word in the Reader. This is why I use very few tags: The category of my post(s) almost always includes the word(s) that I would otherwise have used as a tag.

    As a test, I tried a “Follow Tag” search for the word Cybis which is the name of one of my subcategories; this subcategory contains 9 posts, 3 of which were posted in the past 30 days. The other posts are dated 2012 but were only imported into WordPress.com this Februrary.

    However, I got no results at all for a tag search under Cybis. My posts do not have a Cybis TAG, because they are all in the subcategory “Cybis” beneath the category “Beautiful Porcelain”.

    So I have 2 questions:

    (1) When doing a tag search in my Reader, does it automatically exclude posts that are contained in the searcher’s OWN blog from the results? (if so, perhaps that is why no results came up for Cybis — nobody else on WordPress has used this word as a tag or category, except me?)

    (perhaps someone could do a test tag-search and see whether any of my posts come up; many thanks)

    (2) Does a SUB-category also function as a tag? Or do only Parent categories work that way?

    Hi there,

    When you publish a post, that post will appear on the tag pages in the Reader for any categories (including sub-categories) or tags you add to that post. You’ll see your own blog posts in the results when you search for a tag.

    There are some circumstances where you might not see your posts in those search results, and you can find out more about that on our page about Tags in the Reader.

    However, in this case your posts aren’t appearing because they are dated 2012. The Reader will only show relatively recent posts on those tag pages, and that’s determined by the post’s published date (even if the posts were imported recently).
