Does the visual editor vary according to theme?
-
Back when I used a different theme and a static front page, I experimented with both the color and size of text on that page using controls on the visual editor. But now that I’m wanting to experiment with the look of an upcoming post, I can’t find (or remember) the control I used to vary the text size. Did a control go away because I switched themes?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, the editor is generic – doesn’t change if you switch themes. And there’s no direct control for font size. You can only change the size indirectly, by clicking on one of the “heading” styles under “Format”.

I looked at that page after panaghiotisadam’s reply. If I had seen an explanation for the HTML editor buttons, I would not have asked for one. If you’re suggesting that I “use my imagination” then just say so.

Ummm, you didn’t say you were speaking of the HTML editor in your original post did you? I sure can’t find it.
The buttons on the HTML tab in the editor are pretty much self explanatory with few exceptions, and most of them if you hover your mouse over them for a couple seconds will display a “tool tip” letting you know what it is.
Bold
Italic
Link
Blockquote
Strikethrough
ins (inserts date/time)
img (inserts the basics of the image code so that you can add the URL of the image manually)
Unordered list (UL)
Ordered list (OL)
Line indent (LI)
Code (for inserting sample code so that it is visible in the post)
More tag
Lookup (dictionary/spellcheck)
Close tags (will check your post and close any HTML tags you left open) -

Here is one example of adjusting a font size and of course you can change the 1.6 em number.
<span style="font-size:1.6em;font-family:Arial;">TEXT_HERE</span> Doing that alone may cause some problems with line spacing so you'll want something like this: font-size:.8em;line-height:1.2em;and here, maybe a clue about font family:

Don’t laugh, but I’m still determined to produce an “In Memoriam” post where I present a large “block” of names that looks similar to a tag or category cloud. Using the visual editor, I can manually change the color for each name, and TSP showed me how to produce “hover-over” added text where necessary. I was hoping that the text editor toolbar would let me select the font size as well.
That capability would allow me, after first importing the plain text block of name separated by spaces, use the mouse to select each name and then apply all the formating and hover text simply by using the buttons before moving on to the next name.
I searched high and low for some sort of “text to HTML” generator that would do at least some parts of this for me, but I couldn’t find anything suitable. I had decided that if I could do it manually using the toolbar buttons as I described, it would still be worth the effort. But I’m afraid that having to skip the size variations takes to much from the appearance I want, and having to type in the coding for each name moves the project into the realm of “Too Much Work!”

I’ve not tried, being a Mac person, but lots of people rave about LiveWriter (free) for formatting posts on WordPress. Or is it Ecto (?) for macs (small charge).

@izaakmak: If I understand well, all it takes is some copy-pasting. You can paste this before each name:
<span style="font-size:100%;">and this after it:
</span>then change the percentages at will.
Are you talking about names in one column or not?
(By the way, wasn’t ellaella’s best day either…)

@panaghiotisadam – ella can speak for herself. If you have a problem, take it to my blog. ty

Sorry 1tess, old PIII running Win98SE. That’s too old for fancy stuff like that, and I’m too poor for an upgrade any time soon. You know panos, I thought of your suggestion but hadn’t figured out the easiest way to do it. The names now exist in an incomplete list with one name per line, including descriptive text where needed. When I finally realized the true size of the task the day before Memorial Day, I stopped building the list and started looking for ways to reduce the amount of work involved.
About the terseness from before, there’s no good excuse for my snippiness. As a former customer service guy, I know how tired you can get of answering the same dumb questions. It’s just that I spend so much time trying to be clear, that I get frustrated when I’ve obviously failed to do so.
You guys really are the best. Man I wish the smilies worked here.

Anyway, unless I’m dreaming, I remember *someone* who was a regular here at the time, in the forums, having a link to a post he/she made about using code to make a sort of tag cloud. Copying it from some theme, or something. Or using Word? (hmmm, sorry to be so vague)
Excuse me, but it was when I’d only been around a few months on wp and was a complete rank n00b.
Maybe it will trigger someone’s memory? -

You know, I think my husband still has a couple of tee shirts from the release of Win98SE—his sister worked for Microsoft back then and was very involved in a lot of the promotions for Windows98. That does bring back some memories!
