Does WordPress censor criticism of itself or the State?

WordPress is big. The war-making State would not ignore it. It will therefore either be a big ally of the State or a crippled enemy. So far, it looks ‘healthy’ to me.

I am prompted to ask my question for the following reason. Censorship is now the norm. And it’s awful. And it’s evil and undemocratic. Two, I find it strange that when I expect much business (as in busy, not commerce) on my site, it’s suddenly all but dead.

Thanks in advance for any useful info.

Hi there, WordPress.com has a strong view against censorship: https://en.support.wordpress.com/bypassing-internet-restrictions/

Nevertheless, due to your valid concerns about your site which us Volunteers don’t have much information on, I’ve tagged WordPress.com staff to help you with this issue. You’ll likely receive a response within a few hours from a staff member: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Hope this gets resolved soon. :)

  • Hi there,

We do not censor content on WordPress.com, no. The only times we remove or block access to content is when we are legally required to do so and we post regular updates in that regard on https://transparency.automattic.com/

We have no problem if you choose to use your WordPress.com site to criticize WordPress.com.

If your site is not getting a lot of traffic there can be many reasons, the biggest being recent content from your site not ranking as highly in search engines as other content you might have published before, or a natural lull in traffic – visits across WordPress.com as a whole tend to drop during the Northern hemisphere’s Summer Vacation season. Neither of these are factors over which we have any control.
