Does WordPress compress my audio files when I upload them?

  The uploader says its crunching my MP3 files. Does that mean they are compressing them to a lower bitrate?

  No, they’re not altered at all. The word “crunching” is a holdover from the open source WordPress code; it’s meant in the sense of “working hard”, not “compressing”.

  On WordPress.com, the only thing that happens at the end of an upload is that your file is moved to several file servers, hence the short pause.
