Does WordPress deliberately block 48kHz .mp3’s from showing in Media Library
-
Let me give you some background. I have a WordPress website that I uploaded some 48kHz .mp3’s some time ago. My project paused for a while and then I picked up again and wanted to upload some new music. however, that’s where I ran into the problem that WordPress displays an error when I upload .mp3’s which says:
“Unexpected response form the server. The file may have been uploaded successfully. Check in the media library or reload the page”
I had a tech support call recently and we disabled all plugins and were able to upload a 44.1Khz file. When we tried a 48kHz file the original error persisted. Then, when all the plugins were reactivated I could upload a 44.1kHz file. I then tried to re-upload one of the existing 48hHz files already on the site, and it didn’t work!? I used debug mode and can see there is some issue in some of the WordPress files, which I want to report to WordPress as a bug.

By chance I looked in the SFTP and the files are there, but they don’t show in WordPress media library.

We can’t help as that site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform – https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/http://www.burnished-bronze.com. You must take a look in the documentation at wordpress.org to solve this problem yourself.

Hi there,
I took a look at your site and noticed that it isn’t hosted on WordPress.com. Instead, it is using the self-hosted version of WordPress with a different hosting provider. We specifically support sites built with WordPress technology that are hosted on WordPress.com. You can read more about the differences here:
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
For further support, I recommend posting your question in the WordPress.org community forums, where issues related to the self-hosted version of WordPress are addressed. You can use the following link to get startedhttps://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/
Also note that you can upload and use 48kHz .mp3 audio files on WordPress.com without any issues. If you ever consider switching to a more hands-off hosting experience, we offer free migrations to WordPress.com—a service that typically costs $500. You can learn more about this offer here: https://wordpress.com/support/request-a-free-migration/. -
