Wordpress.com doesn’t have copies of sites hosted elsewehere. If you nor your hosting didn’t make a proper backup, there is nothing you can do.

Let me just add to what @staartmees said, you might be able to recover *some* of your site content from Google’s cache of your site (if recently deleted) or from the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine https://web.archive.org/ but it will not be a full site back-up, no. Sorry for no better news.

Thank you so very much!
My site is on the Internet Archive, in full. A great relief.
Do you have any practical advice about the first steps to take with this to restore it back to WP from the web archive?
Thanks again:). -

Hello again, I also want to mention that these forums assist users with free websites hosted by WordPress.com, the hosting platform. To know more, please read> https://wordpress.org/support/article/wordpress-vs-wordpress-com/
If you haven’t been able to get a backup directly from your web hosting provider, you might also get more suggestions on how to retrieve your standalone WordPress site content by posting to the support forums for the open source WordPress software at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username there, you can register one directly on that page.
That is where you would go for general help in using the open source WordPress software as well.
If you are looking to move your site to a different hosting company from your current host, have a look at this chart to see if WordPress.com is a good fit for you > https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
Best wishes.
