Does WordPress offer a service to build a WordPress.com site as a copy site?

  Does WordPress offer a service to rebuild a site in WordPress.com? I know that the Guided Transfer is offered to build a site in the .org environment based on an existing .com site. However does Wordppress offer a service to build a wordpress.com hosted site as a copy of an existing site.
  The scenario applies to the site rmdservice.com. I have build a mirror of the site at a private site rmdsmirror.wordpress.com. There were a number of bugs an problems encountered but the site was eventually recreated. Both sites use the Organization theme and have CSs customisation. The client is nervous and wishes to enquire if WordPress offer a service whereby they could build the copy site on request, within WordPress.com on request? The intention being that the new site could act as a visible back up of content from the original. This would guard against data being accidentally being deleted from the ‘Production’ site. As an example where this would be useful would be where content was inadvertently deleted from the media library. In this case, in a conventional use of the export file, this would not rescue the deleted content as the image files are not included in the export file, but instead are pulled from the originating site and downloaded to your media library. This keeps the export file from being massive and timing out when you download it. Therefore if they were deleted from the originating site subsequent to the export being taken they would not be on the copy site.
  My personal recommendation to them was that as part of a back up process to:

  1. Create the export file.
  2. Import this file into a holding site on wordpress.com on which all content is deleted. This site need not have the specific theme applied to it but the import will mean that all of the content is available on the new site.

  However this holding site won’t have any of the widgets or look and feel of the original site.

  Hi there,

  It sounds like your clients are looking for a site wherein the content would be kept up-to-date with the content on your production site. Unfortunately we don’t provide any sort of service or solution which could perform this task for you. As you know, it is quite easy to simply export posts, pages, and comments from one WordPress.com site and then re-import it to another one (Images will be pulled over with the import), especially if you are not primarily concerned with themes, etc.

  If you are concerned with a more robust backup system which you have control over, you may want to consider a self-hosted WordPress.org installation, where you could install any number of backup plugins which can back your entire site up to offsite locations, such as Amazon S3 or Google Drive.
