does wordpress staff really look at blogs that are reported to be spam?

I am seeing a lot of affiliate links and was told to report the blogs as spam. I did that with a few but noticed the blogs are still there and posting more posts with the same sort of links. Did wordpress just ignore my reports? I thought affiliate links and referral links were not allowed yet I see them on numerous blogs.

Terms of Service Staff do indeed check out all blogs we report. Perhaps they are backlogged at present.

It’s important to note the only exception to the no affiliate links policy in italics below:
Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. Sometimes it seems to take them a day or two for them to review a blog – and other times is seems like they loose a report, from what a couple of friends have said – sometimes a second report for the offender to go away
Look at the links from timethief above and if the blog is still polluting your universe a few days later then whack (report) it again

On the one hand, staff told me my blog was flagged for suspension by automated software. On the other hand, I was also told that it was done by a staff member and was a judgement call. So I’m not sure what to think.

There seems to be some automated stuff based on some of the reports in the forum of blogs being suspended as soon as they hit “Publish”
But the TOS people won’t say much about how things work to keep people that deliberately spam guessing – but I have seen blogs that should have been flagged by automated most anything were not suspended
