Does WordPress still work with the Tor browser?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve used the Tor browser for years and had no problems with it on WordPress, but can no longer post to my website after the recent upgrades.

    Is this temporary or permanent?

    Thanks in advance.

There seems to be a new script issue that freezes Tor.

I’m using firefox for the time being so I don’t fall behind. It works well but I was curious about the problems with Tor because I prefer that browser.

    Thanks.

I am the owner of the above websites and today is the last day my friend (newworldrisingchronicles) is willing to assist while I am in the process of a major move.

He said if he cannot protect his privacy on WordPress, then as a matter of principle, he refuses to do any further work on this platform.

As it will be several weeks before I can return, I hope that the WordPress team have taken this matter seriously.

When you use Firefox, it is very easy to read all the scripts running on WordPress, every one harvesting data from users, whether they know it or not. This data provides WordPress and hostile government agencies a detailed profile of each user.

If we are working in sensitive conflict areas, our rights, safety and privacy must take precedence over all other concerns.

I hope you understand how important this is, not only for my work, but for everyone using the WordPress platform to advocate for human rights.

    Privacy is a human right.

Tor users must not be barred from publishing on WordPress.

    Hi there,

We recently rolled out an updated editor and it appears to be having some difficulty with the Tor browser. I just tested and have verified that our original editor is still able to publish without any difficulty via the Tor browser however. If you log in to your account and go to your Dashboard and then to Posts >> Add New, you should be able to create new posts from there.

I have submitted this bug regarding our new editor to our developers as well. They will review it and put it in the queue with the other bugs which need to be fixed.

Thank you for reaching out to us on this!

    Happiness Engineer,

I did a test of the Tor yesterday on my own system and found that I was not able to choose the classic editor. It remained frozen on the “beep beep boop” page.

After waiting 20 minutes, I realized this wasn’t going to work. When I tried again without Tor, I had no problem.

The new Tor browser automatically disables third party cookies and includes HTTPS everywhere.

Third party cookies track our browsing history. Why would we want that enabled?

Please do not go directly to the new editor in Tor as, thanks to your information, we have discovered it to be having issues. Instead, you can go directly to your blog’s Dashboard. If you are not familiar, you can go directly to this link:

    https://syria360.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Once there, you can go to the Posts menu and then New Posts, or just click on this link:

    https://syria360.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

I have personally verified that these links work in the most recent version of the Tor Browser, so you should be able to post successfully while maintaining your anonymity.
