Does WordPress support a private page where readers can enter a code to read?
-
Hi!
I was wondering if WordPress supported a private page where readers could enter a code to gain access? My reason for asking has to do with a business venture for a friend who wants to set up an online magazine but needs a place to host it. I’m not sure that the Meta Login is the way to go because people would be able to change the post(s). Is the best option to make the page completely private and then add on the email addresses for people that purchase access?
Thanks,

Hi Julianne. There are two things you can password-protect content on WordPress.com:
– a post or a page, with a single password that you must disclose to anyone who should be entitled to view it
– an entire blog, in which case each person must create an account with WordPress.com and be added as a “viewer” (they’ll need to sign in, but won’t be able to modify the blog). There is no “in-between” unfortunately. For this reason, and for the fact that your friend is looking for a paid subscription-based website, they might be better off looking into a self-hosted WordPress website.
