does wordpress support box.net widgets anymore?
-
I’ve used box.net widgets on my blog for years. My box widgets have disappeared, along with about 200 patterns. Does wordpress support box any more??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hm, the EOL support document on Box says you can’t create new widgets, but the change should not affect existing widget functionality.
I’ll tag this for Staff input, but it might be pertinent to open a help ticket on Box.com as well.

Hi there,
Please do as our support guide states:
Instead, you can create a link to a shared Box.com file or folder.
Cheers!

Thanks Grace.
WPcom’s Support doc also says Box sharing widgets can no longer be created. It doesn’t mention existing widgets will no longer function. So perhaps the wording needs to be clarified.

@embroiderbee – If you need help in creating a link to your pattern folders on box.com, either via a text widget or an image widget, please post back here.

Apparently not :( http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/boxcom-widget/
It’s a https problem.
Screenshot with Firefox (with a security exception):

Done justjennifer.
Where? I don’t see the difference on the support page. :(

@galois – Oh My. Great catch! I hope that WPcom can find a way to work around the https issue. Somehow I don’t see visitors wanting to add a security exception to every visit to a site that is using the Box widget. (if they even realize it’s there!)
As far as the change in the Support doc, it now says
As of December 1st, 2014, Box.com sharing widgets can no longer be created and have been removed. Instead, you can create a link to a shared Box.com file or folder.
(Emphasis on the addition to the Support doc.)

Right, me too.

The WordPress.com Box widget stopped working on January 5th. I went ahead and amended the support doc to reflect that change. Users will need to use the workaround Grace mentioned here:

Thank you for all the replies, but unfortunately I’m now more confused. Thanks for the offer to help Jennifer.

@embroiderbee- WPcom decided last year to move all sites to the more secure https connection. The short version is that the box widget content is there, but can’t be seen when your site is being viewed over the https connection.
Depending on what browser you are using, there should be some kind of icon in the address bar that indicates there is content/script trying to be loaded which is not secure (not over https). If you approve the action (loading the not secure content) your box widgets will show up. But as both gracejiyoung and jeremeylduvall seem to be indicating, even that possibility will soon be gone.
All we are able to do now is provide our visitors with a link to the folder on Box. Have a look at the Box support document https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/200520888-Shared-Links-Overview-and-FAQs
If you need help with creating the link(s), just let me know.

@embroiderbee – As JustJennifer mentioned, the best path forward is to create a link to your box file using the instructions here:
https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/200520888-Shared-Links-Overview-and-FAQs
You can then add a link within your post or on your sidebar. If you have trouble getting this setup, just let us know!
