Every computer that communicates over the Internet is assigned an IP address that uniquely identifies the device and distinguishes it from other computers on the Internet.
The abbreviation of URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web.
If you purchase 5 different domains they will have 5 different URLs.

Have you read this support documentation entry> http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

I believe (but I am not sure exactly) WordPress.Com utilize load balancing technique (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_balancing_%28computing%29) which will assign multiple IPs to a domain.
I don’t think you can control/expect that 5 domains will get their different 5 IPs. Why do you need different IPs?

Also be aware of the concept of dynamically assigned IP addresses — if I switch on my basement computer and connect via the cable company to the internet, I may unknowingly be using one IP address tonight and a different one tomorrow. My blog on WordPress.com is unlikely to be reachable on the same IP address at different times. But I can expect my URL to remain unchanged.

edwinridout,
hosted sites on the internet generally have fixed IP addresses. This means that you will find your wordpress.com blog on the same IP address, though it is also available on others for load-balancing -
