does wordpress.com automatically update? re: latest 2.9

I’m hearing of a recent upgrade to WP, re: 2.9
Is this something wordpress.com users have to do, or is this only for those who use wordpress.org? I want to be sure I’m using the most up to date software. Thanks.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Since your blog is hosted here @ WP.com you don’t need to worry about updating to the current version for the sole reason staff takes care of the updating in the background your WP.com blog is perfectly safe.
On the other hand members from the WP.ORG site do need to update their own software through their dashboard.

Just to confirm the above: there is nothing you need to do, all code upgrades for WordPress.com blogs are handled by staff magic behind the scenes.

On one hand, here at wordpress.com all the geekery is done by our lovable geeks behind the scenes leaving us with the blogging. There are many free features including third party widgets just for wordpress.com users. There is a flow of traffic from the global tag pages and a sense of community in the forums as well. The support is excellent and I’m not only referring to volunteer support — wordpress.com staff rock!
On the other hand, when it comes to our self hosted blogs we must do the upgrades for wp versions and for plug-ins, and if anything is br0ken, the support is hit and miss, so we have to be prepared to suss out what the problem is and “fix” it ourselves.
These are the reasons why I published Self Hosting: What’s Your Hurry? It’s also why I’m considering moving my self hosted blog back to wordpress.com.
