Does wordpress.com support a splash/enter site page?
-
I would like to have a “splash page” or “enter page” that viewers see before actually getting to our site. Would it be possible to make a splash page, have an image gradually illuminate, have “enter site” flash at bottom, and once users click the “enter site” they get taken to the home page of our actual site?
Not sure if wordpress.com supports this, css is required, or I’d need to switch to .org…
Thank you very much,

Hi Frederick,
While several themes offer a variety of front page styles, none of them particularly offer a welcome page as you describe it right out of the box.
All of these things you’ll be able to do, but most all of them will require a great deal of skill in CSS whether you used WordPress.com, .org, or any other web development framework.
One thing that immediately pops out to me is you could use Goran’s front page template, using only the top feature, which includes a button you can customize:
https://gorandemo.wordpress.com/
have an image gradually illuminate, have “enter site” flash at bottom,
This would require the CSS skills. I imagine you could accomplish this with CSS3 animations:
http://www.w3schools.com/css/css3_animations.asp
and once users click the “enter site” they get taken to the home page of our actual site
Since this welcome page would still be part of the same WordPress site, you’d need to create the static front page without a menu, then once the reader clicks your Enter Site text/button/image, then you can bring them to another page which does include a menu, likely using a Custom Menu Widget.
That way the reader won’t immediately see the connection between the welcome page and the rest of the site — even though they’re all hosted together.
So yes, I can see where you can develop a WordPress.com site into a welcome page as you’ve described, but you’ll need to write your CSS animations to make the features appear just right.
We do have a CSS Customization forum available for help with CSS designs, but please know what you’re talking about is advanced use of CSS.
Best,
-Alex G.
