Does WP provide help?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’ve sent two emails via http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ and after 3 weeks no one has got back to me.

Is this normal and does WP even provide support?

    Thanks again,

    Wladimir

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

They provide support for some things. If they don’t have a solution, they just don’t answer, generally speaking. If you re-send a message, you go back to the end of the line, because the requests are dealt with in the order received and that makes it look like a brand new issue.

Thanks for your help, really appreciated.

That’s a bit disappointing about the WP support especially as I am a paying customer and not on the free plan.

@WP support – If you’re reading this, please HELP!!!!

    1) I have a custom theme blog.mobi-cart.com so how can I remove the copyright statement in the footer? This blog design is our own custom design and does not belong to the designer in question listed in the footer of our site.

    2) How can I have post summaries on the home page of my blog? Seems to be ok on category pages. For now I’ve had to use that tag which breaks up the post.

    3) How can I change my blog from mobicart2.wordpress.com to mobicart.wordpress.com

I guess I’ll wait another 7 days making this 4 weeks in total waiting for support before moving to Tumblr.

You don’t need staff to answer these questions. We answer these every day here in the forums.

    1) you can’t. Your blog is a customized version of the pre-existing theme; you have only changed the CSS. You must retain the credit in the footer.

    2) Yes, you have to use the More tag. Some themes truncate the posts on the main page, but this isn’t one of them. You’ll have to add the tag yourself.

Thanks so much for your help.

    1) In that case how can I use my own theme and CSS?

    2) Thank you

    3) Thank you

In that case how can I use my own theme and CSS?

You cannot build or use your own custom theme built from scratch at WordPress.com.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

The only themes we can use are those found here > Appearance > Themes
This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

There are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.

If you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

You ARE permitted to edit the footer to say “custom design based on” and leave the original links.

Thanks for your help guys, really appreciated.

“You ARE permitted to edit the footer to say “custom design based on” and leave the original links.”

How do I go about doing this as the theme we have looks nothing like the original.

    Thanks again,

    Wladimir

    mobicart.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this blog.

    @mobicart
    Are you still out there?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

mobicart.WP.com is my old account. I signed up a while back then deleted my account. When I tried to sign up again it said my account was taken hence why I had to change to mobicart2.WP.com

    Thanks again,

    Wladimir

    a) You changed the CSS of the theme but you didn’t change its underlying PHP files. It may look different, but it’s still zBench, created by someone else. And anyway it’s very easy to remove the credits via CSS but WP doesn’t allow that.

    b) If you deleted mobicart.wordpress.com, then you cannot get that address back. You get very clear warnings re this when you try to delete a blog.

Thanks for your reply, it’s really appreciated.

    a) Thanks for the info. Nothing much I can do, but when custom CSS is used, in my opinion there should be an option to remove any copyright statements. It’s just confusing when our two themes are totally different.

    b) Thank you and that kind of makes sense. However if the address is not being used, I dont see why I cant sign up with it again.

    You’re welcome.

Re a: You didn’t design your own theme, you designed a different skin for an existing theme. If you take a Toyota Corolla and change the wheels, the lights, the fenders and some other exterior body parts, it’s still a Corolla. You may have changed its appearance, but everything that makes the car work –including its customizability– was designed and created by Toyota, not by you. As already suggested, the legitimate (and accurate) thing to say in your case is: zBench by zwwooooo, customized by you.
And actually this more to your credit. Think about it: the more you have changed the appearance of a theme, the prouder you can be if others can check the original and see what you’ve done with it.

Re b: I’m not WP staff so I can’t explain things on their behalf. The fact is that WP doesn’t recycle addresses:

If you delete a site you will not be able to get it back and no one else will be able to use that site address.

    (from http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ )

Blogs that have been deleted by the owner will remain deleted. We cannot, under any circumstances, allow someone to take over a blog name that was previously owned and deleted by its original/previous owner. Please do not submit support requests asking us to do this.
