Does wp.com limit some trackback url pattern?
-
I own another blog hosted by different blog system. I tried post in wp.com and use trakback to the post I posted there. It fails and shows nothing. I check the http server log, I can’t even see the log from wordpress.com. I seems there is some kind of trackback url filtering system in wordpress.com. Can someone there help me on this problem? Any suggestion is extrememly welcomed.
BTW, here is my trackback url: http://exodus.cs.ccu.edu.tw/~yuwen/NUBlog/trackback.php?i=2007072

There are no filters if you are trying to send a trackback to another site.
Where is your post here that you tracked from?
Can you send to / from http://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/TestTrack ?
You can login there to check comments / moderation and send/receive as much as you wish. -
Hi Mark,
I’ve tried a lot of time on wordpress.com and http://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/TestTrack. Both of them are failed to send trackback on my site. I also tried to use curl to simulate the trackback to my site, it works! Is there any other problem on my site? Here is my curl simulating command (it works!):
curl -d url=test -d title=test -d blog_name=test -d excerpt=test “http://exodus.cs.ccu.edu.tw/~yuwen/NUBlog/trackback.php?i=2007072” -
Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem with tracebacks to their web site.
Here’s a few more recent threads with people having the same problem.

There are no problems with trackbacks or pings.

to

and it worked. You are doing them correctly?

Hey Mark,
just an FYI (maybe to shed more light), i pinged five of my own posts in this post:
http://judyb12.wordpress.com/2007/10/07/ayr/but only one of the pingbacks has shown up (on this one: http://judyb12.wordpress.com/2007/02/27/fecamp-monday/ )
The other posts that should have received pingbacks are:
http://judyb12.wordpress.com/2007/02/27/fecamp-tuesday/
http://judyb12.wordpress.com/2007/03/01/fecamp-wednesday/
http://judyb12.wordpress.com/2007/03/01/fecamp-thursday/
http://judyb12.wordpress.com/2007/03/02/fecamp-friday/ -
That may well be because it pings or trackbacks just the once.
If you ping and trackback, the ping is sent – because it goes first – and the trackback does not then get sent. But I can’t be sure. This is one for looking in the .org code and seeing how it is handled there – what you had is not a wordpress.com issue alone.
I’ll try and check.

Hi mark,
It seems to be my http server’s problem. I was running lighttpd on my blog system, I change it to apache 2.2. All of the sudden, I can receive the trackback from wordpress.com. Amazing!! -
I’ve always been able to send tracebacks. My problem has just been on receiving them. This (not receiving) also seems to be most of the users who post in the forums problem, too based on the a new traceback/ping problem post every month or two that I’ve noticed.
I know for sure of a few tracebacks, since I’m participating in an open-source bookmarking web site that sends tracebacks when you submit an article. So when I submit an article, it sends a traceback to the originating web site, but those aren’t showing up. It’s not that important, but it’s never worked for me. I can send you the source code for the sending web site and help debug it from that end, if needed.
