We have been invited to follow our friend’s trip blog junetrip2019 but when we fill in our e-mail address in the FOLLOW section message states ‘invalid e-mail’ …why?

    Hi,

Where is the FOLLOW section that you refer to?

  • Unknown's avatar

we have a friend who invited us to follow his trip blog junetrip2019.wordpress.com and we are to click on FOLLOW after typing in our e-mail address in order that we may be included in reading his trip blog. It’s on his opening page where the photo’s are and a brief description of them packing to leave May 31st. Key in his junetrip2019.wordpress.com and you’ll see it.

    Hi,

If you were logged into a WordPress.com account then the Follow Blog Widget wouldn’t require you to provide an email address. The fact that it asked for an email address indicates that you weren’t logged into a WordPress.com account when you visited the page.

I don’t know why the email address was rejected. Are you sure you entered correct and full account email address, including the domain?

Tests I just ran produced the following results:

    1. When entering an email address associated with a WordPress.com account.

This should prompt a message stating that you’re already subscribed, or something equivalent. That’s because the email address is recognized as that of a WordPress.com account member that had previously followed or subscribed to that site.

    2. When entering an email address not associated with a WordPress.com account:

If the email address entered is in the proper format (name@domain), then, even if the email address is nonexistent, after entering the address and clicking the signup button you should receive a message telling you to expect an email message that requires confirmation.

Sorry, let me correct those results:

    1. When entering an email address of someone that has previously subscribed to that site:

This should prompt a message stating that you’re already subscribed, or something equivalent. That’s because the email address is recognized as that of a WordPress.com account member that had previously followed or subscribed to that site.

    2. When entering an email address that is not recognized as that of a previous subscriber to/ follower of the site:

If the email address entered is in the proper format (name@domain), then, even if the email address is nonexistent, after entering the address and clicking the signup button you should receive a message telling you to expect an email message that requires confirmation.

    Hi rjtallboots,

but when we fill in our e-mail address in the FOLLOW section message states ‘invalid e-mail’ …why?

Can you confirm which email address you were entering?

As @musicdoc1 mentioned, it sounds like you weren’t logged in WordPress.com at the time. It sounds like you were trying to follow via the Follow Blog widget on junetrip2019.wordpress.com (in the sidebar), is that correct?

    Let’s go from there…
