Repurchase my domain (thelittlelibrarycafe.com), which expired today. I transferred my site over to Squarespace about 15 months ago, and this morning my domain was no longer available.

Hi there,
Your domain expired on 18 April, and stopped working yesterday when it was cancelled and removed from your account because you did not pay for renewal.
I should still be able to get it back from our registrar if you still want to renew it, but there is a $80 fee to do this in addition to the $26 cost to renew the domain. Please let me know if you agree to paying this fee and I can send you an email with a link to pay.
We cannot contact the registrar to restore the domain until we receive payment for the recovery fee as we need to pay that to the registrar to get the domain back.

Thanks for letting me know this – my email account as my old work one, so I completely missed this.
When you say ‘get it back from our registrar’, can I purchase it from them directly? My site has now been transferred over to Squarespace, so it makes more sense for it to be hosted there going forward. If the domain is now defunct, will it be available again to purchase?

At this point it is still in a holding period where it can only be restored back to us, so I’ll need to email the registrar to get it back. Once we get it back you can always transfer it away from us if you prefer.
The other option is to wait it out. The domain should be released in about 40 days at which point anyone can register it again. But this is risky as someone else could potentially buy the domain before you can, or it can even be sold at auction by the registrar in which case it’s never released.

If we’re unable to restore the domain we refund the recovery fee in full, but at the point in the expiration process where your domain is now we’re usually able to get it back.
I’ve sent an email to the address associated with your account. Please let me know if you don’t receive it.

I’m emailing our registrar now. This usually takes around two days, but might be a bit longer as it’s the weekend. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from them.
