can I start building a site then connect my domain later? I just at present wish to see how wordpress works

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes. Build a free site with a subdomain address ending in .wordpress.com. Upgrade it to a Pro plan when you’re ready to connect your domain to that site.

I was looking for the unknown importer, where might that be found

  • Unknown's avatar

Did you see the reply from a member of staff regarding your previous thread?
    https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/migration-63/
The importer is only designed to bring across content already created in the WordPress format.

well, it doesnt look as though I’ll be able to use wordpress. I cant even get basic functions to work. I was hoping this would be easy to use, but without a college education and a degree in web design, I’m dead in the water. I cant even figure out how to edit text within a block. Very frustrating

  • Hi there,

I was looking for the unknown importer

Is this to import the site you mentioned in https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/migration-63/, created with GoDaddy’s GoCentral site builder?

There isn’t any importer for that platform, as GoDaddy doesn’t provide an export file for sites built on their platform. So the only way to import a site built on that platform is manually, as my colleague explained in the other thread.

I cant even figure out how to edit text within a block.

Can you give some more details on what you’re trying to edit, e.g. the post/page title, and the specific content?

To edit the content of any existing post/page, go to Posts ->All Posts (or pages) and click on the one you want to edit. You should be able to change the content of any block within the post by simply clicking on it, and editing the same as you’d do in a word processor like MS Word.

If that’s not working for you, can you please describe exactly what’s happening so we can investigate what might be going wrong?

I got a few things working, but I’d like to do away with the title as I do that in colors on the page image itself. But in my last post this is what I’m dealing with at the present.
I replaced the image in the cover block, when I did the image was to fuzzy. So I replaced it with an image block, crisper image but now too dark. The image in the gallery looks fine, so I don’t understand why this is happening. Also when I preview it, the cell phone image doesn’t come across properly at all. if you look up the current site http://www.highgeartrucking.com you’ll see what I mean. I realize that I’m forced to build from scratch but I am going to require help with these issues. Also how do I delete the title. Thanks

  • Hi there,

I replaced the image in the cover block, when I did the image was to fuzzy. So I replaced it with an image block, crisper image but now too dark. The image in the gallery looks fine, so I don’t understand why this is happening.

I visited your site, but I don’t see any pages listed here: https://wordpress.com/pages/

Did you delete what you were working on? If so that makes it tough for us to take a look, so you are encouraged to set that back up again and we’re happy to investigate. If you plan to have an image without text overlay, you can add the standard image block. If you want an image that you can add text on top of, you will want the Cover Block.

Whichever you choose, if you can leav that set up and give us a link to the page you are working on, we can take a closer look, thanks.

I realize that I’m forced to build from scratch but I am going to require help with these issues.

Not necessarily. If you wish, you may want to consider our “Do it for me” program where we set up your initial site for you.

If you prefer to take care of setup yourself, we’re happy to help you here in the forums, but if you are not sure where to get started with your site you may want to consider registering (for free) to one of our daily webinars here: https://wordpress.com/webinars/

Of the ones we offer, I’d recommend these two as good starting points (depending on what fits your schedule)

    Sneak Peek: Full Site Editing
    Getting Started: Website Building 101

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

  • Hi David,

Bringing this over from your other thread:

Anyway, I saved it as a draft
    High Gear Trucking

Thanks for pointing us to the right page.

So I replaced it with an image block, crisper image but now too dark.

The image is dark because it has a semi-transparent overlay applied. But you can remove that:

Go to Pages ->All Pages and edit that page.

Click on the image and in the editor sidebar look for the Overlay section. Set the Opacity to zero there, and your image won’t be so dark any more:

On your other page, the untitled one, it’s the same issue – in that case it’s a light grey overlay, also semi-transparent.

I followed the instructions, but something seems to be wrong. First I published the page, then went to the sidebar for all pages, but when I click all pages, nothing happens, kinda like a dead link. This is the sidebar on the left, correct?

The add new link works, but not the all pages

  • Hi there,

Can you please share a few screenshots of what exactly you’re seeing when you try to add those links? You can quickly grab a screenshot with https://snipboard.io/
