  I’m trying to use my custom domain (I got through GoDaddy) with the FREE wordpress. The cost is $13. However, when I go to checkout, the cost is $180.

  Can I not use my custom domain name with the FREE wordpress?

  No. You need a paid plan to correctly connect a domain purchased elsewhere to a WordPress.com site.
