    I had an account with WP and cancelled it as well as the domain. I am trying to purchase the domain through another web host but it says the domain is already registered. The domain expired on 4/27/22 so I should be able to purchase it again, but I can’t. The other host that I chatted with said that I needed to contact WP to get the domain released.

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

    More details would help. What is the domain in question? When did you register it and when did you delete it? If you deleted it outside the 96 hour refund window it may not be available for a year.

    Expired domains don’t become available right away, but have to go through a redemption process that lasts around 80 days, and only at the end of that process does the domain get released for re-registration:

    If you had a domain with us that expired, and you still want to use it, your best option is to restore and renew it, and then transfer it to the provider where you want to use it. But in order to help you do that, we’ll need you to contact us using the WordPress.com account that owns the domain.
