domain

My business homepage is ‘mypage.biz’. I own it through GoDaddy.

Currently I am on the free WordPress plan, and my blog domain is ‘mypagesite.wordpress.com’

I would like to change my WordPress blog domain to ‘blog.mypage.biz’, or ‘mypage.biz/blog’.

    How do I do this?

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

You can do this by mapping your site to a subdomain on your domain.

First, you’ll need to purchase a plan via My Site ->Plans so you can add the domain mapping upgrade.

Next, you need to log in at GoDaddy and add a CNAME to your domain’s DNS records. GoDaddy support should be able to help you with this. The CNAME should be for “blog” pointing to your WordPress.com address, so joylabsite.wordpress.com

For the last step you then go to My Site ->Domains ->Map It and add a domain mapping for blog.mypage.biz, replacing that with what your domain actually is.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Does it matter which plan? Or is the Personal Plan enough?

  • The personal plan is sufficient if you only want to connect the domain, yes.

    Hi,

On December 2 we mapped the CNAME on GoDaddy.

Today (December 5) we purchased the Personal Plan, and followed your directions to Map It. I get an error message. “Sorry blog.joylab.biz has not been registered yet therefore cannot be mapped.”

It was mapped days ago, so GoDaddy has done it’s part. Is there a waiting period for WordPress?

  • It appears our system isn’t recognising that as a valid subdomain. It could be that the CNAME is still updating – DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to update and if we’re connecting to a server where it hasn’t updated yet it would look as if it doesn’t exist.

But I’ve tried adding that domain for you manually, and it looks like it’s working now.

Please let me know if you need any more help with this.
