I am trying to use my domain at at different hosting site after I canceled my Premium account here (I needed wordpress.org not .com) but when I go to my other hosting site it is saying my domain is unavailable. When I type in my domain it pops up my old wordpress site. But when try to make a transfer I need an authorization code that I don’t have because my profile says that I dont own it anymore. Which is why I am posting this on a forum and not asking someone directly.

Your domain at travisandmilam.com is currently pointing to your WordPressdotcom site travisandmilamdotcom.wordpress.com

Did you purchase your domain through WordPressdotcom/WildWestDomains? If so and it was more than 60 days ago, you can transfer your domain to your new hosting service following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

If it has been less than 60 days, you can still point your domain to your new hosting provider following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

You do need to be logged in with the username account that purchased the upgrade in order to access the domain management areas of your dashboard.

Let us know if you need more help with that.

okay but now my Travisandmilam.com domain isn’t showing up so I can’t do that. It’s less than 60 days old so I cant transfer it myself.

You can’t transfer the domain at all if it was registered less than 60 days ago. That is an ICANN regulation that WordPressdotcom does not have any control over. However, you can still use your custom domain name on your new web hosting provider as long as you are logged in with the correct username account (the one that purchased the upgrade) and follow the change name server guide I linked to earlier.

After the 60-day waiting period, you should then be able to transfer the domain itself to your new hosting provider.

Okay I figured that out, but my options under Domain just say ‘DNS Records’ it doesn’t say ‘Name Servers and DNS’ Am I in the wrong place? I am following the instructions from the article you sent me.

  • It’s easy to miss the name server options. It’s a little blue/white toggle switch at the top of the DNS configuration that says “use WordPress.com name servers” Once you turn that option off you can add the custom name servers.
