Domain
-
Hello,
My domain name is/was http://www.ottawadrugmart.com and it has come to my attention that it has expired with no prior notice from wordpress. I am just trying to figure out what I can do to get it back up and running. It is currently in retention. Not sure what to do from here!

Good Morning –
We send several notices out in the months before a domain expiration. Double check the email address listed on your account at wordpress.com/me/account – that’s the address where these emails were sent. It can help to add WordPress.com as a contact in your email as well, this will help keep our notifications out of the spam filter.
This domain has entered in to redemption since the expiration. The good news is that we can try to help you recover the domain before it is sold to the public again. To do this, our domain partner charges an $80 fee.
Let me know if you agree to that fee and I’ll get the process started.
Typically we hear back from them within 48 hours and it’s only a few clicks to add the domain back to your account if it can be restored.

There are more details about domain expiration in this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

I’m going to send you an email with more details and a secure payment link. It’s going to be emailed to the account that owns this upgrade though (not mrpharmaceutical).

It’d be best to have her transfer ownership over to your account – after we get it restored. Here are those instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
And, of course, if she reaches out to us via wordpress.com/help/contact/ we can assist her.

Good morning mrpharmaceutical –
I wanted to let you know that I’ve heard back and the domain has been redeemed. Were you able to get in touch with with the owner of the domain?
-
Thats good news,
I have contacted the owner and she should be in touch shortly.
Thank you!

Let me know once you’ve been able to submit payment, then it’s just a few clicks to add the site back.
The biggest thing is that you’ll want the current owner to transfer it over to your account if you’re going to be the one responsible for the renewals each year. Remember that the current owner is not under any obligation to comply with that request.

Good Morning –
I’ve emailed you the payment link since we haven’t received payment yet from the owner’s account. While you can pay the redemption fee from your account for this domain it does not make you the owner of it. The account that originally registered the domain owns it.
The best way forward would be to have the owner transfer ownership over to you – but they are under no obligation to do so.
-
Update: We have heard back from the owner that they would like to transfer the domain to you. I’ve provided the necessary instructions for them to do this.
The domain has been restored and is working again. Let me know if you have any other questions.
-
Thanks so much for your help!
I didn’t actually pay the fee to restore the domain or for the domain/hosting fee.
-
Hi –
Please submit the payment at the link I’ve emailed to you. It was delivered to the address listed at wordpress.com/me/account/
After 2 weeks the domain will be removed and canceled if payment isn’t made.
-
Great, payment has now been made
I guess I cannot see much info under my account until the current owner transfers the domain into my name
-
Good Morning –
Thank you. I’ve confirmed your payment has come through. The domain is up and working again.
Until the owner transfers it over to your account you are not going to find it listed under My Sites. I’ve sent them the instructions to do this.
